What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine that is indigenous to and widely practiced in India. The word "Ayurveda" is a Sanskrit term meaning "science of life". It incorporates all aspects of life whether physical, psychological, spiritual or social. This healing system has been practised in daily life in India for more than 5000 years.

What is the basis philosophy of health, disease and treatment in Ayurveda?
According to Ayurveda, "Health is a state of equilibrium of normal functions of Dosha, dhatus, malas and agni with delighted body, mind and soul". It means that when Dosh-Dahtu-Malas and Agni are constantly in a state of functional equilibrium, then the health is maintained. Otherwise distortion of the equilibrium results into disease. Treatment in Ayurveda is with or without drugs, application of specific rules of diet, activity and mental staus as described, disease wise, brings back the state of equilibrium i.e. health.

How is diagnosis done in Ayurveda?
Diagnosis of a disease using Ayurvedic methods consists of two following parts-
1. To establish the state and type of the pathology. These involve examination of patient and make different investigations to diagnose the disease. The main modes of physical examination are inspection, palpation, percussion, interrogation.
2. The second type of examination is to assess the strength and the physical status of the individual, so accordingly treatment can be planned. For this examination of Prakrati (Body constitution) vikriti (Pathology), Saar(strength of systems), Samhnan (Composition of body), Satva(mental strength) satamya (specific adaptabilty), Pramaratha (proportionation relate on of body part), Aaharshakti (diet intake capacity), vyayaam shakti(exercise capacity)and Vaya(age)is done.

What are the methods of Ayurvedic treatment?
The main method of treatment are Sodhan (detoxification), Shaman (Palliative and conservative)and Pathya Vyapathya (do's and don'ts regarding diets and lifestyle).

What is Panchakarm?
Panchkarm is sodhan therapy (detoxification).Panchkarma is the primary healing modality within the ancient Ayurvedic science. It offers balancing rejuvenation for mind, body, and consciousness. This is achieved through a series of unique, natural, holistic, health giving, deep cleansing therapeutic treatments. These treatments removes toxins from body and restore constitutional balance improving health, strengthening immunity, reversing negative effects of stresses which slow the aging process, and enhance self reliance, strength, energy, vitality and mental clarity.
Panchkarm comprises 5 steps-
Vaman (Vomiting)
Virechan (Purgation)
Vasti (Enema)
Nasya (Nasal Cleaning)
Raktamokshan (The removal of impure blood)

Can one take Ayurveda Medicine with Modern medicine?
If not indicated otherwise by the attending physician, Ayurvedic medicine can generally be taken along with Allopathic medicine (modern medicine). Ayurveda medicines are use as adjuvant to allopathic medicine in most of chronic and degenerative diseases. As such there is no harm to consume simple herbal formulation of Ayurveda.

Is Ayurveda recognized by W.H.O.?
About 20 year back, W.H.O. adopted traditional medicine program in conjunction with the goal of health for all with the adoption of primary health care approach .W.H.O .has open mind on traditional medicine. However, it endorses only that therapy which has solid scientific evidence with no toxicity.
In View of this Ayurveda is duly recognised by W.H.O.
